Manufakture – Brussels

Manufakture is an industrial building that combines three programs: a slaughterhouse, a carpark and a swimming pool. The three programs are superimposed. The stepped structure refers to the architecture of large industrial halls, such as the Heysel hall in Brussels, or the Tony Garnier hall in Lyon. The ground floor marked by its repetitive concrete structure houses the workshops of the slaughterhouse. A technical floor sits on top of it. Two floors of parking space are superimposed on top of this technical floor. Then comes a swimming pool characterised by a light-weight steel structure, meant to optimise the structure of the floors below. This overall superimposition of functions defines a building conceived as a pile of structural orders.
